"We aim to serve food that is inspired by mother earth"

Our kitchen is a sacred space—a place where we connect with the fundamental elements of nature: earth, water, air and fire. When these elements come together with human intention, love, gratitude and awareness, cooking becomes more than the preparation of a meal; it becomes a beautiful act of nourishment. At Rome’s Wellness, we believe that the energy with which food is sourced, prepared, served and consumed is as important as the ingredients themselves.

Our food philosophy is vegetarian, holistic, gluten-free, millet-based and vegan-friendly, with a strong emphasis on fresh, seasonal and naturally sourced ingredients. We believe that everything we eat nourishes not only the physical body but also influences our mind, emotions and inner wellbeing. When food is clean, fresh and consciously prepared, eating itself can become part of the journey towards greater balance and purification of body and mind.

At the heart of our kitchen is the ancient philosophy of the Sāttvik diet. The word Sāttvik comes from the Sanskrit word Sattva, representing qualities such as purity, harmony, clarity, truth, vitality and balance. A Sāttvik way of eating therefore extends beyond a list of ingredients. It includes how food is grown, selected and prepared, how much we eat, the state of mind in which we eat, and the gratitude with which we receive our nourishment.

Ayurveda recognises that every individual is different. The constitution and present condition of the body are traditionally understood through the principles of Vāta, Pitta and Kapha. Therefore, food at Rome’s Wellness is not approached simply as a fashionable diet. We encourage conscious eating that considers the individual, the season, digestion, lifestyle and overall wellbeing.

A Sāttvik diet is sometimes misunderstood as being entirely raw, uncooked, bland or restrictive. In reality, it can include a beautiful variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, legumes, whole grains, millets, natural oils and other wholesome foods, both raw and gently cooked. In our kitchen, onion and garlic are avoided in keeping with our Sāttvik approach. Rooted in the principle of **Ahimsa—non-violence—**our meals are vegetarian and prepared with respect for nature and living beings.

Sāttvik food can also be wonderfully flavourful. Traditional Indian food philosophy recognises six tastes—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent and astringent—and thoughtful meals can bring these together in a nourishing and satisfying way. Simplicity does not have to mean tastelessness; it means allowing natural ingredients, herbs and spices to express themselves without unnecessary processing.

Our meals are freshly prepared with simplicity and care. We favour seasonal foods and ingredients grown in harmony with nature, while avoiding packaged, canned and highly processed foods wherever possible. Meals are planned thoughtfully to provide nourishment from varied natural sources, and quantities are prepared mindfully to minimise food waste. We also encourage guests to eat slowly, chew properly and experience their meals without unnecessary hurry or distraction.

Most importantly, our food is prepared with love, care, gratitude and chanting. The kitchen is not simply a place where meals are produced—it is part of the retreat experience. Cooking can become meditation, serving can become an expression of care, and eating can become an act of awareness and gratitude.

At Rome’s Wellness, food is therefore not about restriction; it is about developing a healthier and more conscious relationship with nourishment. Throughout your retreat, you experience how simple, fresh and thoughtfully prepared food can support physical wellbeing, mental clarity, emotional balance and spiritual practice.

And we want this understanding to travel home with you. Guests can learn the principles of Sāttvik and Ayurvedic-inspired cooking so that the retreat does not end when they leave Rome’s Wellness. The intention is to carry these practices into everyday life—choosing ingredients consciously, cooking with awareness and transforming the kitchen into a place of nourishment for yourself and those you love.

Come to Rome’s Wellness and rediscover food as nourishment, awareness and gratitude. Let your journey towards a more conscious Body–Mind–Soul way of living begin at the dining table.

“The secret of longevity, radiant wellbeing and spiritual evolution may be closer than we imagine—it begins in the kitchen. For decades, we have witnessed the wisdom of healing through food. Come, rediscover this timeless knowledge with us, and learn to recreate a kitchen where every meal becomes nourishment for the body, clarity for the mind and elevation for the soul.”
